Season of Giving
As the days grow shorter and winter sets in, we’re reminded of all that makes this valley so special. It’s a season for gathering, for slowing down, and for appreciating the beauty that surrounds us—from the glistening snow on our peaks to the quiet, open landscapes for all to enjoy.
This time of year, we’re especially grateful for you—our community of supporters who believe in the power of conservation and who protect the open spaces, trails, and waterways that define the Gunnison Valley. Whether you’ve joined us in the field, attended an event, or simply connected over a shared love for these lands, thank you. Because of your commitment, special places like Red Lady, Long Lake, the Lower Loop, Lupine Trails, and the Slate River wetlands are safeguarded and will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come.
As Colorado Gives Day approaches on December 10, we invite you to join this statewide celebration of community-driven support. Donations made on the Colorado Gives Day platform now through December 10 are amplified by a statewide incentive fund, allowing every gift to go further for local nonprofits. Whether it’s your time, your skills, or your charitable support, every act of generosity strengthens our work.
No matter how you celebrate this time of year—whether you’re gearing up for a busy ski season or savoring the peacefulness of winter—we wish you a warm and joyful Thanksgiving.

Stewardship Stories: Rozich Ditch

For generations, the Rozich Ditch has served as a lifeline for local agricultural producers and a testament to their commitment to the land. Passed down through the Rozich and Rozman families for over 150 years, the stewardship of this ditch has maintained the Rozman family’s connection to the fields and grazing lands of the conserved Robinson and Gallin parcels, purchased by the Land Trust in 1998. These parcels sustain the agricultural heritage and production at the base of Mt. Crested Butte and protect wildlife habitats, scenic views, and recreational access between the Towns of Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte.
In recent years, in partnership with the Rozman family, the Land Trust has been working to improve the Rozich Ditch infrastructure, providing consistent water flow to the 133 acres of hay meadows on the Robinson and Gallin parcels. This collaboration ensures that the land remains in productive agricultural use and embodies the shared vision between agricultural producers and the Land Trust—a vision of lands kept healthy and useful, where agriculture and conservation work hand in hand.
The Rozich Ditch is more than just a channel of water; it symbolizes the dedication of families like the Rozmans and the power of community partnerships that preserve our valley’s agricultural legacy. By honoring these working landscapes and the people who care for them, we’re able to conserve not only the open spaces that define our valley but also the traditions and hard work that sustain it.
