Mission and Vision

Our mission is working with you to forever protect and steward open lands for vistas, recreation, wildlife, and ranching, thus contributing to Gunnison County’s unique heritage and quality of life.

The Crested Butte Land Trust works with families, individuals, and local government partners to conserve land through fee title acquisition and conservation easements. Each easement or purchase is unique to the landowner’s conservation goals. Once conserved, Crested Butte Land Trust sta and volunteers steward and manage these lands in perpetuity.

Who We Are

The Gunnison Valley is where we live, work, and recreate. It is truly your place! Conserved open spaces are what makes the Gunnison Valley so special – the working ranchlands, clean water, scenic vistas, and healthy habitats that are invaluable to our quality of life.

Since its inception in 1991, the Crested Butte Land Trust has protected over 6000 acres in the Gunnison Valley. The Lower Loop area, Gunsight Bridge, Lupine and Snodgrass trails, Mt. Crested Butte Rec Path, and Long Lake are all conserved thanks to our work. We help generational ranching families continue operating in an ever-changing economy, and we preserve wildlife migration corridors and habitats throughout the valley.

Our work is our passion. Conserving and stewarding these lands is not just a task for today, it is an investment in our future. With your help, the Crested Butte Land Trust will continue to care for these lands for generations to come.
