Community Engagement

Connecting People to the Land

At the Crested Butte Land Trust, we create meaningful opportunities for people to experience and care for the landscapes that define our valley. Through free community events, youth programs, and family-friendly activities, we bring people together to explore, learn, and celebrate our shared commitment to open lands.

Community Events

Throughout the year, the Land Trust hosts a series of free events that highlight the importance of conserved lands in the Gunnison Valley. These events are often held in partnership with local organizations that do meaningful work on protected lands. Whether it’s a guided hike, learning from scientists, or digging in a community garden, our events are a chance to connect, learn, and celebrate the places we all care about.

Partnering for Impact

Collaboration is at the heart of what we do. From community gatherings to long-term conservation strategies, we partner with organizations and agencies across the Gunnison Valley to care for the land we all love.

Through the Slate River Working Group, we regularly convene with recreation groups, land managers, scientists, and local agencies to ensure thoughtful stewardship of our shared landscapes. We collaborate with the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Association to build and maintain trails on conserved lands and with the Adaptive Sports Center to provide multi-access trails for everyone. The Mountain Roots Food Project operates a community farm on our Glacier Farm property, and each summer, we team up with Gunnison County Libraries to host a StoryWalk® on the Lower Loop. And, these are just a few examples!

From nonprofits to public agencies, our partnerships ensure that conservation is inclusive, collaborative, and deeply rooted in the community.

Engaging the Next Generation

We’re committed to inspiring the next generation of land stewards. Through classroom visits, guided field trips, and nature-based activities, we help youth build meaningful connections to conserved lands. Families can explore together through our interactive StoryWalk® and Letterboxing adventures, designed to get kids moving, reading, and engaging with nature in creative ways. Do you work with youth and want to collaborate on conserved lands? Reach out to Jess at jessica@cblandtrust.org – we’d love to partner on an outing, lesson, or custom experience.
