Rozman Ranch
In an effort to preserve ranching in the East River Valley and maintain vital habitat for wildlife, John and Marilyn Rozman committed in 2004 to preserve their 550-acre ranch located just two miles south of Crested Butte. The Rozman Ranch was homesteaded by Martin Rozman in 1890 and stretches from Whetstone Mountain, where it is contiguous to the Gunnison National Forest, to the Slate River. The Rozman Ranch conservation project boasts beautiful native mixed conifer and aspen forests, critical swaths of meadows and wetlands, and approximately 1.7 miles of Slate River frontage. Several springs originating on the slopes of Whetstone Mountain flow onto the property. In 2004, a 319-acre conservation agreement was placed on the property, and an additional 150 acres was protected in the summer of 2011. There is no public access without consent from the landowner.
