Allen Ranch

Allen Ranch Conservation Easement

The Allen Ranch, located just south of Crested Butte along the East River, has been used for agricultural purposes for over 100 years. In 1997, the Allen Family donated a 185-acre conservation agreement protecting lush irrigated hay meadows. The property possesses vibrant wetlands with associated riparian ecosystems including significant stands of willows; natural, scenic open space visible from the West Elk Scenic Byway; and wildlife habitat supporting elk, deer, coyote, hawk and abundant avian life.

The Allen’s have removed the development rights from the property for perpetuity. Except for the right to construct minor agricultural structures, the land will remain in its natural state. The Allen family continues the very important role of carrying on the ranching legacy in the valley. There is no public access.
