Natural Areas

The Crested Butte Land Trust protects the natural areas that define the extraordinary places we treasure here in Gunnison County. To date, we have protected over 5,200 acres and we are not done yet.

The natural treasures include pristine wetlands, which hosts up to twice as many plant species compared with neighboring forests and meadows, as well as high alpine valleys that serve as migration corridors for wildlife including elk, deer, mountain lions and bears.

Other gems are the dramatic scenic vistas, including Paradise Divide, and our traditional rural landscapes, like the working cattle ranches and the sage and forested hillsides that have been used for grazing for over 100 years.
