The Crested Butte Land Trust has a perpetual obligation
to care and nurture the properties that it protects.Following best practices, we have set up a
stewardship program to monitor and maintain our important plant and animal
habitats, protect water quality, and continue the preservation of scenic landscapes
that contribute to our community’s sense of place.
If you enjoy working outside in some of Crested Butte’s
most beautiful areas, we encourage you to join our volunteer stewardship
team.Tasks include help with trail
management, native habitat restoration, fence mending and invasive plant
removal.
The Crested Butte Land Trust also monitors all protected
properties, including those that do not provide access to the public. The role of the monitor is to act as the eyes
and the ears of the Crested Butte Land Trust, documenting changes that may have
occurred since the last monitoring visits.Stewardship volunteers will attend a training session in early June and
are then assigned to monitor 1-3 properties during the monitoring season, which
runs from June through September.
