"Preserving the Present for the Future"
Written by site_admin

The inspiration for the Crested Butte Land Trust came from a local builder and avid environmentalist, Norm Bardeen, who served on its first board of directors. Formed in 1991, its purpose, in the words of former board member Jackie Ingham, is "preserving the present for the future."

The Crested Butte Land Trust (CBLT) is a Colorado non-profit organization established in 1991. Our mission is to assist landowners and residents of the East River Valley in the preservation of significant open spaces for the enjoyment of current and future generations, and to maintain the integrity of our natural environment. CBLT works in a non-adversarial way to facilitate win-win land preservation efforts.  We have protected over 4,000 acres of crucial wetlands, wildlife habitats, view corridors, recreational opportunities and our ranching heritage in the Gunnison Valley. Our goal is to keep our valley unique as too many of Colorado's ski area valley's have lost their ranches, vistas and wildlife habitat. You too can help preserve Crested Butte's character and protect the surrounding area by volunteering, donating or being an advocate for CBLT.
